Chat with strangers online. Someone is waiting.
Chat with strangers online without a camera, a real name or a sign-up. Talk to strangers by text: one button, a few seconds, and a real person is typing back. Adults only, and every message is screened first.

Three ways in
Pick whichever suits the mood. They all live under one anonymous handle, and none of them asks who you are.
One stranger, one thread
You type, they type, nobody needs to look presentable. Skip the second the spark is missing.
How text chat worksRooms with the lights on
Eight public rooms, already mid-conversation. Read for a while, speak when you have something to say.

Click with someone? Add them and the thread follows you out of the chat: DMs, streaks, the lot.
Find someone worth adding
How this works (it is not complicated)
Tick the box, get a name
Confirm you are 18 or older and pick Male, Female or Other. The site hands you a handle like VelvetFox214. No email asked.
Say what you are into
Choose up to five interests. For your first 15 seconds in the queue, the matcher looks for someone who shares one.
Say hi first
A stranger lands. Wave, use an opener or send a game invite. Skip if there is no spark. Stay if there is, and add them.
Text only, on purpose
Some nights you want company without an audience. TalkTo keeps random chat to typing, so you can talk from the sofa, the bus or the dark bedroom you have no plans to leave, and nobody ever sees your face. No microphone either. Nothing here asks for your camera.
A new match comes with three openers you can shuffle, a one-tap wave and a this-or-that question you both answer at the same moment. If the conversation sags, invite them to a game of chess, Connect Four or Word Hunt without leaving the window. If it dies, hit Skip. Nobody is owed an explanation at 2am.
Typing at your own pace is also kinder to people who think before they speak. You can reread, rephrase and pick your moment, which is how a lot of shy people end up being the funniest person in the chat.
Anonymous, without the fine print stress
Most places want your email, your number and a photo before you can say hello. TalkTo gives you a handle like QuietOwl702 and an animal for a face, then gets out of the way. Your real name never comes up because nobody asks for it.
Staying nameless does not mean staying unaccountable. Messages are screened before delivery, reports go to a person, and bans follow the connection as well as the account. You get the mask. The rest of the room gets the safety net.
You can add an email later if you want your handle, friends and DMs on a second device. We send a six-digit code, there is no password, and the address is never shown to anyone. Changed your mind about all of it? Delete your account from Settings and the lot goes with it.
What you get when you walk in
Fast to start, hard to abuse, easy to leave.
Random text chat
A fresh stranger every time you press Next. Type as fast or as slowly as you like.
Interest matching
Up to five of 28 interests. For the first 15 seconds the matcher hunts for overlap, then it takes whoever is waiting.
Friends and DMs
Add someone mid-chat and keep talking later. Edit a message within 15 minutes or unsend it entirely.
Screened first
Sexual content, slurs, links, numbers and social handles are stopped on our server before the other person sees a thing.
No name needed
You are a handle and an animal until you decide to tell someone more. Nothing on the site requires you to.
Nothing to install
TalkTo runs in your browser on a phone, tablet or laptop. Add an icon to your home screen for one-tap access.
Too shy to type? Challenge them to a game.
Nineteen two-player games live inside the chat: chess, pool, cup pong, mini golf, Crazy Eights and a pile more. Send an invite, they accept or say no, and you play live while you talk. Some are quick (Rock Paper Scissors), some are a proper evening (Battleship), and one has you drawing so badly the other person has to guess what it is.

Dress the place up
Twelve themes, and the first one is Chilli. Light and Stranger are yours from minute one. The other nine open as you finish chats, starting with Cherry Blossom after three and ending with Rainbow at 120. A chat only counts when you both said something, so lurking does not level you up.
See the themes in the appFree live chat, no strings
Chatting on TalkTo costs nothing. There is no trial to cancel, no card to enter and no email to hand over before the first message. Open the page, tick the box, talk to strangers for as long as your thumbs hold out.
Rooms, friends, DMs, games and themes are part of the same free thing. We would rather you had a good time and told someone than gated the fun behind a pop-up. Open the app and see for yourself, then judge us on the first five minutes.
For anyone who misses the old random chat sites
TalkTo keeps what people loved about random chat: press a button, meet someone, see what happens. It drops the parts that made those sites a gamble. No camera, no surprise on the other end of a video feed, and a filter that works before a message arrives, not after.
What do people use TalkTo for?
Mostly this, in no particular order.
Killing a dead evening
Ten minutes with a stranger beats scrolling the same three apps for the fourth time.
Hearing another time zone
The queue is global, so your 3am is someone's lunch break. They have opinions about both.
Finding a regular
Add the person who made you laugh. Message them tomorrow and keep the streak going.
Practising your English
Typing gives you time to think, look a word up and try again. Patient strangers help.
Saying the unsaid thing
Some conversations only work with someone who will never meet your family.
Losing at chess
Nineteen games, one leaderboard. Beat a stranger and your wins count for the week.
Public rooms, open all hours
The public rooms are group conversations anyone on TalkTo can join. Pick one, scroll back through the latest messages, and type when you have something to add. Your handle is already sorted, so you walk in without announcing who you are.
Once you join, the room sits in your sidebar with an unread count. Leave with one tap, or hide it from the list if you want it quiet. Nothing expires and nothing makes you come back, so the room is there when you want it and silent when you do not.
There are eight rooms and we run all of them. Users cannot start their own, which keeps the list short and keeps spam from spawning new doors. The same filter sits in front of every message, and a person can pull a message down or lock a room when it needs a cooldown.
- Eight rooms, no sign-up
- General, Gaming, Music, Anime and more
- Read the room before you join
- Unread counts in your sidebar
- Leave in one tap, hide any time
- Filtered and reportable
Rooms
A crowd or one person
Same handle, same account. Switch whenever your mood does.
Public rooms
A crowd, always mid-sentence. You can read first and speak later, or never speak at all.
- Walk into a conversation already running
- Stay joined until you decide to leave
- Land among people who share your obsession
- Good when you want company without eye contact
Random one-on-one
A private thread with exactly one stranger. Nobody else reads it, and it ends the moment either of you walks off.
- Their whole attention, and yours
- Skip to someone else whenever you like
- Interests can nudge who you meet
- Better for real talk than small talk
The house rules, in plain English
Chat sites earned their reputation the hard way. We read the complaints and built the opposite.
Screened before delivery
Every message passes our server filter before the other person sees it. A blocked message is not sent, and you are told why.
Private by default
No real name, email or number is needed to chat. Friends see your handle and your note, nothing else.
Adults only
You confirm you are 18 or older before you start. Anyone who says they are younger is stopped, and reports about minors go to the front of the queue.
Another person, every time
The matcher only pairs people who are online right now. If nobody is there yet, it tells you to hold on rather than faking it.
No app to install
Open it in a browser and you are in. Pin it to your home screen if you like having an icon.
Skip, block, report
Three exits, each one tap away. Reports reach a queue a person reads, and bans cover the connection, not just the account.
What we promise
“We screen every message on our server before it reaches you, in chats, DMs and rooms.”
Screened first
Filter, then delivery
“We keep strangers text only. No camera, no microphone and no photo uploads, so there is nothing to expose.”

Nobody sees your face
“We make leaving easy. Skip, block or report in one tap, and a ban follows the connection as well as the account.”

Short guides before your first chat
Three quick reads: what to type first, why there is no camera, and how to keep a good chat going once it ends.
Questions people ask first
How do I talk to strangers on TalkTo?
Open the app, tick the box that says you are 18 or older, and press the button. You get a handle, the matcher finds someone who is online right now, and you are typing within seconds. Set a few interests first if you want a head start.
Is TalkTo an Omegle alternative?
It scratches the same itch. You meet random people with no profile and no history. The differences are that TalkTo is text only, screens every message before delivery and lets you add the people you click with as friends.
Does it cost anything to chat with strangers?
No. Random chat, rooms, friends, DMs and games are free, and nothing asks for payment details.
Do I need to sign up or install something?
Neither. You are given an anonymous handle the first time you press start, and everything runs in your browser. If you want the same handle on another device, you can link an email later.
Is TalkTo anonymous?
Yes. You are a handle and an animal avatar. We never ask for your name, your number or a photo. We do see a rough country and keep a one-way hash of your connection for bans, and the privacy policy lists exactly what is stored.
Can I make friends and keep talking?
Yes. Send a friend request while you are still in the chat. When they accept, they appear in your Friends list and you can message them directly whenever you like.
Can I choose who I am matched with?
You can choose interests, up to five, and for the first 15 seconds in the queue the matcher looks for someone who shares one. Matching by gender is a Premium feature that is not switched on yet, so for now everyone is matched with Anyone. There is no country filter.
Is it safe to talk to strangers here?
Safer than most places, not risk free. Everyone must confirm they are 18 or older, every message is filtered before delivery, links, numbers and social handles are blocked, and you can skip, block or report in a tap. A filter can miss things, so report anything that gets through, and never share personal details with someone you have just met.
Are rooms group chats or one-on-one?
Both exist. Public rooms are open group conversations on a topic, and anyone can read their recent messages. Random chat is a private thread between two people, and it ends the moment one of you walks off. Pick rooms for a crowd and random chat for a proper one-to-one.
What makes this better than the older chat sites?
It is text only, so there is no camera to go wrong. Messages are filtered before they land. Bans reach the connection, not just a throwaway account. And it works in a normal browser on a phone, without an install.
Can I text strangers without giving out my number?
Yes, and you cannot swap one even if you try. Phone numbers, email addresses, links and social handles are blocked in every chat. If you want to keep talking, add them as a friend inside TalkTo and use DMs.
Do chat rooms still exist?
They do, and TalkTo brings them back properly. Eight public rooms open to anyone without an account, plus one-to-one chat for the evenings when a crowd is too loud.
Is there a sign-up wall for rooms?
None. Choose a room and start typing. Only the two adult rooms add a step, a second age confirmation before you can read what is inside.
Are the rooms moderated?
Yes. The same filter that guards private chats guards every room. People can remove a message, and a room can be switched to read-only if it needs a cooldown. Rooms have no report button yet, so if you spot trouble, leave or tell us through the help page.
Can I leave a room without losing my place?
Leaving is one tap and the room drops out of your sidebar. You can rejoin later, and you can read a room before joining it, so there is no need to commit to find out what it is like.
Come here. Someone is waiting.
No camera, no name, no sign-up. Just you, a stranger and whatever happens next.
