Random Stranger Chat: Someone You Would Never Have Met

Random stranger chat has a quiet advantage: you owe each other nothing. No shared friends, no history, no version of you to live up to. Whatever you type next is the entire introduction.

TalkTo puts a new person in front of you within seconds. You type, they type, and either of you can walk away with one tap. It is free, it is anonymous, and there is no camera anywhere in it.

What you actually see about a stranger

Not much, and that is the design. Your match arrives as a handle such as MellowOwl318 and an animal for a face. If your interests overlap, the chat says so, in a line like You both like Music, Gaming.

The country your match is connecting from sits in the chat as well, so you know whether you are talking across a street or across an ocean. When you happen to share a country, there is a line for that too. That is the lot. No age, no photo, no city, no job title.

Treat that gap as a feature. It makes people brave. It also means you cannot check a single thing you are told, so the sensible rule is the oldest one: share opinions freely and personal details never.

The first minute, handled

Everyone is waiting for someone else to go first, and whoever goes first usually wins. If your mind has gone blank, the chat offers three openers you can shuffle. Edit one before you send it so it sounds like you.

Better than any opener is a specific question. What are you watching, what time is it there, what was the last good thing you ate. A question only one particular person can answer gets a particular answer back. How are you gets fine, then silence.

Stuck anyway? Hit the this-or-that button. You each choose in secret, the choices appear together, and you have a free argument about pizza against burgers. It is amazing how far an argument about pizza will carry two strangers.

Staying, skipping and everything between

Skipping is how the format works, and everybody does it. The site asks you to confirm first, mostly so a stray thumb does not end a good chat. Nobody is owed a goodbye.

When it is going well, tap the Good chat heart. It is private. If the other person taps it too, you both see it and get a button to add each other. If only you tapped it, nobody ever finds out, which is the best possible outcome for a crush.

When it is going badly, you have two moves: skip, or report. Anything sexual, hateful or threatening, or anyone who says they are under 18, belongs in a report. Reports go to a queue a person reads, repeated ones lead to temporary bans, and blocking means that person never lands in your queue again.

For the wider picture, online chat with strangers covers the rooms and the rules, and random text chat explains how the matcher thinks.

Random stranger chat, answered

How fast do I get matched?

Usually within a few seconds, though it depends who else is online. For your first 15 seconds in the queue the matcher prefers someone who shares an interest, then it stops being picky. If the wait drags, the lobby suggests choosing Anyone or dropping an interest.

Is it rude to skip someone?

It is the main control in the building. Skipping asks you to confirm, then moves you on. You will be skipped yourself before long, and it says nothing about you.

What if a stranger gets inappropriate?

Report them. The filter stops sexual messages, slurs and links before they land, but a filter is not a person, so use Report when something slips through. The report carries a short excerpt of the chat, and reporting ends the conversation.

Can I talk to the same stranger again?

Not by luck, because matches are random. If you liked them, add them as a friend during the chat or right after. Once they accept, you can message them whenever you like.

Do strangers see where I am?

They see the country your connection comes from, and nothing finer than that. Your name, email and photo are not shown to anyone, because we never asked for them.

Does random stranger chat cost anything?

No. Starting is free and nothing asks for a card.

Come here. Someone is waiting.

No camera, no name, no sign-up. Just you, a stranger and whatever happens next.
