Community Guidelines
TalkTo only works if everyone feels fine walking in. These are the rules. They are short on purpose, and they cover every chat, DM, note and room. Using TalkTo means you agree to them, and breaking them can end your access.
1. Be decent
Talk to people the way you would want to be talked to at 2am by someone you have never met. Disagree all you like. Be cruel and you will be skipped, blocked and eventually reported.
2. Keep it clean
No nudity, no sexual talk, no fishing for sexual content, no pressuring anyone into it. Flirting is fine when both of you are enjoying it. The moment one of you is not, it has stopped being flirting. The message filter blocks sexual content, and trying to dodge it counts as breaking the rule.
3. No hate
Racism, slurs and attacks on someone for their race, nationality, religion, gender, sexuality, disability or anything similar are out. One serious incident can mean a permanent ban.
4. Adults only
You must be 18 or older to use TalkTo. If you are younger, leave. If someone tells you they are younger, or you think they might be, stop talking and report them as looks under 18. Anything sexual involving a minor is reported to the authorities.
5. No harassment, no pressure
Do not follow someone from chat to chat, message them after they have blocked you, threaten them, or lean on them for photos, money or personal details. No means no, and silence means no too.
6. Protect privacy
Never post or ask for another person's private information. Think twice before giving out your own. Do not screenshot or repost a conversation to embarrass or expose someone.
7. No spam, scams or sales pitches
No adverts, no get-rich-quick offers, no phishing, no copy-paste messages sent to everyone. Links, email addresses, phone numbers and requests to move a chat to another app are blocked, and persistent attempts will get you banned.
8. Keep it legal
Do not use TalkTo to plan or carry out anything illegal, including fraud, selling illegal goods or sharing content that is unlawful where you live.
9. Do not cheat the system
No bots, no scripts, no automated messaging, no scraping, and no opening new accounts to dodge a block or a ban. Bans cover the connection as well as the account, so it will not work for long.
10. Rooms have their own manners
Everything above applies in the public rooms, with a bigger audience: the whole room sees your handle and your messages, and a visitor can scroll back through recent history before joining. On top of that:
- Stay roughly on topic. Drifting is fine, hijacking a room is not.
- Do not flood. Repeating yourself or dumping walls of text to push other people off the screen will get you removed.
- Do not pile on. Several people aiming at one person is harassment, however mild each message looks.
- Two people deep in their own conversation should take it to DMs.
- Dating and 18+ are for adults to chat, not for explicit material. The same filter and the same rules apply.
11. Report and block
If someone breaks these rules, report them. Every report goes to a queue a person reads, with a short excerpt of the chat attached. Block anyone you do not want near you again: they will not be matched with you, cannot message you, and any chat you share ends immediately.
What happens when someone breaks the rules
Depending on how bad it was, the outcome ranges from a blocked message to a temporary ban to a permanent one. Several reports from different people, or repeated blocked messages, trigger an automatic temporary ban while a person reviews. Serious cases, especially anything involving minors, may be passed to law enforcement.
We can also delete a single room message, put a room into read-only mode, or restrict a connection. We do not promise a warning first. How it all fits together is on the safety page.
